In Summit County, just a 20-minute drive north of Silverthorne, Colorado, the Doig Ranch is a beautifully-treed 245 acre parcel with approximately 100 acres of irrigated hay and pasture. It is situated between 8,000 and 8,600 feet in elevation and is contiguous with US Forest Service land on both the south and east boundaries. The area is forested with aspen, spruce, fir and pine. Water rights include 8.42 cfs of Lillian Ditch water diverted from Black Creek.
The Ranch was homesteaded by Dave Doig in about 1900. Dave educated himself by reading the dictionary nightly. Dave and wife Minnie (Palmer) Doig put up hay and the current owners, the Knorrs, bought it annually to feed their cattle as they moved them between their Mt. Powell and Lakeside Ranches. The original homestead house (20 Mile House, so named because it was equi-distant between Kremmling and Dillon, CO) burned one year, but was rebuilt by the Doigs in its original location a year later. Winters were spent in Denver, but in the spring, Dave would return, clean ditches and plant potatoes. When Dave Doig could no longer manage the property, it was sold to the Knorrs and Dave eventually moved to Denver where he passed away in 1958. The members of the Knorr family, long-time Colorado cattle ranchers, have been the owners and careful stewards of the land for over 50 years. It is rare for a long-held family ranch in the Lower Blue River Valley of this size, quality and excellent location to become available for sale.
The ranch is only one-quarter mile from Green Mountain Reservoir and has beautiful views of the reservoir, the Williams Fork Mountain Range and Ute Peak. The Eagle's Nest Wilderness Area is within 1.2 miles. In addition, it is only a short drive to several renowned ski and summer resorts, including Keystone, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs. This is a unique opportunity to own a ranch in the sought-after Lower Blue River Valley, with the added benefits of access to public lands to the south and the east. Recreational opportunities on the ranch and nearby include downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, horseback riding, boating, water skiing, hunting and fishing and much more. This ranch can be a family legacy property to be enjoyed by multi-generations.
We invite you to schedule a tour of the beautiful Doig Ranch.
